Located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, Winnipeg is almost at the geographic centre of North America. It is the largest city and capital of Manitoba and is known by many as the "Heart of the Continent" or "Gateway to the West." Area attractions include but are not limited to The "Anson Northrup", the first steam-powered vessel to reach Fort Garry; Canadian Pacific Railway Station, the CPR Station which was built in 1904 to replace a previous structure which burned down in 1894; the Exchange District; the Forks National Historic Site; the former Great West Life Building; St. Boniface Cathedral; Seven Oaks House and Memorial, Woodsworth House and Upper Fort Garry Gate. The Royal Canadian Mint is also located in Winnipeg. This is where all circulating coinage in Canada is produced.
