This may be the world’s most important city – the seat of power for the free world. However, what often goes overlooked is that Washington is one of the world’s most beautiful cities, complete with great monuments and even better neighborhoods. A true global city, Washington, named after America’s first president George Washington, has so much to see and do, one visit is never enough. Besides great landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial – our favorite – Washington Monument, White House, the Capitol Building, Jefferson Memorial and nearby Arlington Cemetery, the only city in the District of Columbia also has some eclectic neighborhoods that reflect its diversity. Spring, when the apple blossoms turn the city a blanket of pink, is the best time to visit – avoid the heat of the summer months if you can. Some of the most powerful people on earth live in Washington or surrounding areas like Georgetown and Arlington so finding great restaurants is never a problem. Unfortunately, after the government offices close, there’s not much to do in downtown Washington, which ranks among the highest crime rates in the world. Washington has good transit, featuring a subway/LRT system.
