There’s lots of street action in Los Angeles – because the streets here are some of the famous in the world. From the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine to Mulholland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard, visitors love walking the streets hoping to see Johnny Depp or some other Hollywood hottie. Everyone who comes to L.A. for a visit has to take a bus tour of the streets where the stars live and a studio tour is a must. But L.A. has plenty of other attractions, too. Like walks through the city’s famous Chinatown; a drive to Westside where you can see including Beverly Hills, The Grove and the city’s original farmers market; tours of Universal Studios in nearby Hollywood; harbour cruises; the world famous Griffith Observatory, L.A. Zoo, The Autry, Griffith Park, Greek Theatre and Forest Lawn Cemetary and Museum where many former Hollywood stars are buried; the beautiful botanical gardens of nearby Pasadena, and Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm in neighboring Orange County.
Best time to visit: All year – L.A. is a year-round destination.
Getting around: Los Angeles has a fairly extensive subway system that connects with many tourist attractions. L.A.’s traffic chaos is legendary and its bus system has been the butt of late night comedian jokes dating back to Jack Parr.
Our favorite hotel: The Four Seasons Los Angeles (www.FourSeasons.com/LosAngeles) – In a city of stars, there’s no bigger one than this iconic hotel, where you pay a hefty price to watch your film favorites roll up in their limos or Rolls Royce – but the thrills and elegance offered here are well worth the price.
Our favorite restaurant: The Formosa Café (7156 Santa Monica Blvd. near La Brea, 323-850-9050) – This legendary celebrity hangout is where the walls are lined with over 250 black and white photos of stars who have dined there - a virtual "Who's Who" of Hollywood. And the food is pretty good, too!
