Northwest Airlines, Inc. (often abbreviated NWA), is headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota, just outside Minneapolis-St, Paul International Airport. Northwest has merged into Delta Air Lines. Northwest is one of the largest airlines in the world – both from a cargo and passenger standpoint. Northwest has four major hubs - Detroit Metropolitan/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam (Northwest also operates flights from its Asian hub at Narita Airport in Tokyo) – and the airline and its subsidiaries employ more than 31,000 people worldwide. Northwest is also part of the SkyTeam Global Alliance. Managing a fleet or 14 B747 freight aircrafts, Northwest is the sole U.S. combination carrier (passenger & cargo service) to operate dedicated 747 freighters. Transatlantic flights were operated from its European hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in cooperation with its partner airline KLM.
